Siuslaw Model Forest Invasive Species Removal Training

Invasive species are here! They are the plants, insects, animals and/or pathogens that are not native to our region. Since these invasive species generally do not have natural enemies in their new location, some of the more troublesome often cause extensive damage to the local environment and our economy. Some can also be a threat to human health.

In Greene County, our Master volunteer networks that help with identification and eradication require an understanding of management options and control strategies to better share information and resources with the community. Join us at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties’ Agroforestry Resource Center in Acra on Saturday October 19, from 10:00-1:00pm for an invasive species Train-the-Trainer Removal workshop. Learn the latest strategies in invasive species removal in our region. We will focus on accessible invasive species in Siuslaw Model Forest as well as a refresher of other common or newly arriving species that are high priorities for your role as educators.

Organizations and agencies represented at this event include the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership, the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, as well as Cornell Cooperative Extension staff.

Knowing how to deal with certain invasive species will help you manage their spread and provide up-to-date recommendations, so being appropriately informed and updated is essential. The cost is free.
