Trees die all the time in the woods. The problem is when new seedlings get eaten up by deer. Here is a picture of sunlight hitting the forest floor for the first time in 60 years after a white ash tree died from ash yellows. The landowner recognized the opportunity, and decided to put up a deer exclousre around this new gap so seedlings may grow in the sunlight to create the new forest. I'm looking forward to coming back in several years to see the new trees!
